Your journey

Douarnenez has no train connection, but there is a Breizh-Go bus that runs eight times a day from Quimper at a cost of €2.50. Please note that the last bus leaves at 19:30

You can easily get to Quimper station by TGV from Paris Montparnasse. Why not take the opportunity to spend a day or two in Paris on the outward or return journey?

There are planes that land in Brest, Rennes and Nantes. You continue by train to Quimper.

and of course: you can travel with your own car or hire one in Quimper, Rennes, Brest or Nantes

Your accomodation

First option: an Airbnb (between €60 and €100 per night). There are a lot of them in Douarnenez and they are close to my language studio. The advantage is that you can cook there.

Second option: A guest room (between €70 and €100 per night) where you get breakfast. There are also some in my neighbourhood. The advantage is that you usually have contact with your hosts and can speak French.

Third option: The Hôtel Clos de Vallombreuse, which is right in my street (overnight stay 100€). The advantage is that your room is cleaned every day. However, you will have to book breakfast separately as it is not included in the price.

Your mealtimes

if you opt for a guest room or a hotel, breakfast will be served to you. If you opt for an Airbnb, you can prepare what you like yourself.

For lunch, you have the option of eating at my place. We would cook together if you like (extra charge 100€ or 20€ per lunch hour). This would be an opportunity to practise your French in a very natural way. If you prefer to have lunch out or in your neighbourhood, this is also possible.

On the evening of your arrival, I will put together a basket of fine specialities for you (we will discuss what you like to eat in advance). If you are staying at the hotel, you can have dinner with me.

You can organise the other evening meals as you wish. There are many restaurants in Douarnenez 😋.

There are more than just lessons!

Would you like to cook with me and have lunch together? Would you like to explore the neighbourhood or go for a bike ride? I look forward to showing you my recipes and my city and its surroundings! 😊

COOK AND EAT TOGETHER

After the first three lessons in the morning, I would like to invite you to my dining table. We'll cook together if you feel like it. I will teach you some Breton recipes, such as whiting in cider sauce with cooked apples and spinach, far breton, buckwheat flour crêpes or other French recipes such as quiche with goat's cheese and honey or ratatouille 😊.

If we go on an excursion, we can stop off at cosy cafés, whether in Douarnenez itself or in the surrounding area: you'll be surprised.

HIKING

After the lunch break, the first option is a hike directly from Douarnenez: We hike a section on the GR 34 via the Sable Blanc beach to the Roches Blanches. I promise you a two-hour hike with breathtaking views. So pack your hiking boots (you don't need poles, I have some if you like).

CYCLE TOUR

Would you like to go on a bike tour? I can organise an e-bike for you (€40 for the day) and we'll ride to the most beautiful places in the area: the covered avenue of Lesconil, the Pointe du Millier with the Keriolet mill, Pont Croix, where we can enjoy a delicious cake or other snack at the "Pluie d'été" café-bookshop or just have a coffee...

EXCURSION BY CAR OR BUS

If you prefer, we can also go by car or bus to the Pointe du Raz, past the Baie des trépassés and into the beautiful stationery café "Monsieur Papier", which is located directly on the ocean. You could also go to Plovan to the surf beaches and the mysterious Chapelle de Languidou...

Or would you prefer to visit Quimper?

  CULTURE

There is a lot going on in Douarnenez: atmospheric celebrations such as the street carnival "Carnaval des Gras" (February), the poetry competition "Printemps des poètes" (March),  the brass band festival with cardboard boat regatta "La vie en Reuz" (June), an electronic music festival and the Fête de la Musique (end of June), a film festival (August), a performing arts festival "Les petites planches" (September), but also the "Fêtes Maritimes", which take place every two years in July. In Pont-Croix, just a few kilometres away, there is a classical music festival in mid-July and the medieval festival (Fête Médiévale) from June to September. Numerous art, craft and photography galleries offer you the opportunity to discover art in all its forms. Also take a look at the programme of the cinema "Le Club", which is an arthouse cinema where there are sometimes discussions with directors. We might go to the cinema together and chat about it afterwards in a café.
